I recently switched to Butrans 5mcg + 15mg oxy for chronic full body pain. I had been on straight oxycodone 45mg daily for a couple of years. The oxy is losing effectiveness at that level, and the goal was to have more relief without increasing the amount of short-acting opiates. I recently switched to Butrans 5mcg + 15mg oxy for chronic full body pain. I had been on straight oxycodone 45mg daily for a couple of years. The oxy is losing effectiveness at that level, and the goal was to have more relief without increasing the amount of short-acting opiates. I noticed hundreds of tiny blisters on the backs of my hands, and up my arms, after having the patch on for only one hour. I left it on overnight. The pain management was reasonable, but low. I feel we'd have fine tuned to the 10mcg Butrans + 15mg oxy. But due to the blisters I've had to stop using Butrans altogether. If I hadn't been allergic, it probably would have performed well in managing the pain.

I've been on Butrans for over a year now. I started on 5 and moved to the 10 within a couple weeks. The 5 didn't feel like much improvement but the 10 felt like a miracle. I've tried everything from Vicodin, Perc, Dilaudid, etc for 8 years of disabling pain and fatigue due to fibro and lupus. Nothing worked without creating allergic reactions or put me in a sleepy fog. Butrans gave me energy, I slept better, my resting pain was down to about a 2/3 all without side effects. Other than a little irritation from the patches. Or so I thought. I've had these large single blisters show up that take weeks to heal and left big round scars - in places i had a patch weeks before. My hands and back have started aching continually and I have an embarrassing tremor of my hands. I'm dropping things all the time, my hands are weaker. My vision has become poor, unable to focus for long on text, difficult to read, hard to track back to the next sentence without it seeming like the lines are swimming. It's becoming harder and harder to empty my bladder, seriously it's an effort for my muscles and I have to shove my fists into my abdomen to help. I figured it was the course of my disease until I spoke with someone at my support group meeting just a few days ago who listed all the same issues - Butrans was killing him! The DR got him off it immediatly and it's taking him MONTHS to recover from the damage. I thought this stuff was a miracle, I told all my fellow sufferers about it and even though my co pay was through the roof, I kept refilling. I went up to the 20 for about a month and went back down to 10 - it was too much. Getting off it is very hard, the first week I could literally not stay awake. It was horrible, I have young children and a husband who need me and I've become more ill because of it. Read the side effects list, if you are having any of the Severe ones - get off the patch!!!!!!
